Aid for Pakistan Update

Ken Smith is working in Pakistan with Omaha Rapid Response bringing relief to the refugees who have been forced from their homes by the war between the Taliban and the Pakistan army.  The Pakistan army told the people of the Swat Valley to get out of the area, saying they will do all that it takes to defeat the Taliban.  This has lead to a crisis of epic proportions, with 1.9 million people who have fled but have nowhere to go.  Refugees who have found shelter in schools have been told by the government that if they stay, they will be considered to be with the Taliban.

keninpakistan1jpg.gifOmaha Rapid Response has been working in the area adjacent to Swat Valley since the earthquake of 2005 and is prepared to respond because of its work among people of a similar culture.  The Pakistan National Director is assessing needs and ways to aid.

Goals:

Empty schools, moving refugees to a cooler climate (current temps over 100°F)

Provide water tanks, so people don’t have to travel so far for water

Provide tents, food, transportation, toilets, and eventually matresses (most people escaped with only one gunny sack of their belongings keninpakistan2jpg.gif

If you’d like to give, toward the work, any money donated will be used directly for these refugees and not trip expenses.  Our team members raise their own support.
